About Our Invitations

Our invitations were incredibly and graciously designed by our good friend Kristin. (Say hi to her at the wedding!) Kristin also designed our Save the Dates, and we wanted to achieve the same level of personalization with our invitations. We gave her a few examples of layouts that we liked, and then asked her if she could design something with "a whole bunch of things that mean something to us." And without much more guidance than that, this is what she created.

When she finished, we were speechless, in love, and didn't want a single thing changed. Kristin is awesome. Here's a guide:

Desmond: My anxious (and Ben's soon-to-be adopted) son.

Love Balloon: An art installment at the American Visionary Art Museum where we're getting married. We'll say our vows standing beneath this.

Rummikub tile: Ben, Amy, Ori, and I played Rummikub a lot early in our friendship, and Ben's proposal included the Yellow 7 tile. See our relationship timeline for more details.

Owl of Wisdom: Amy, Ben, and I also played a lot of Trivia Crack when we first became friends, but Ben always won. Until he didn't. The next time we hung out after he lost, Ben brought us an old snow globe with an "Owl of Wisdom" in it. It was from a junk store, and it was gross. But it became a staple of our home, and we still have it.

Photo booth strips with Amy and Penelope: Every BuzzFeed party has a photo booth, so we have A LOT of these lying around. We also have a bunch from our trip to Berlin with Amy and Stefanie. Bonus: Amy and Penelope have been around since the dawn of our relationship, so we included them as an easter egg.

Settlers of Catan sheep card: We love Settlers of Catan, and we play it often. This is the sheep card. (We call them Dianes.)

Big Dog: This is a reference to those Big Dog shirts from the '90s, and it's an inside joke between us. It's dumb.

Gouda cheese: We love aged gouda cheese.

Chappie: Sorry, but this is what we call each other, and the origin story involves a UCB show where Ben cried from laughing so hard.

LOL sticker: Because we met at BuzzFeed.

Pallas cat: Please see this video.

Tortilla chip and queso: We love them.

Passport: We like to travel.

Tagliatelle noodle: One of our favorite dishes at our favorite restaurant in Brooklyn is made using tagliatelle pasta. And, to us, there's almost nothing better than sharing a perfectly creamy pasta dish in a lowly lit restaurant just slightly tipsy on wine. The end.
